Ranedo de Curueño · León
A life to remember.
Alfredo was born on 29 July 1919 in Ranedo de Curueño. His childhood was spent working on the family farm and delivering bread to villages in the area.
In March 1938 he was conscripted during the Spanish Civil War. In 1941 he enlisted in the Blue Division and served as a supply corporal, responsible for provisioning his company on the Eastern Front.
Wounded in Kolpino on 19 September 1942, he returned to Spain on 4 November. He joined the Guardia Civil in 1943.
From memories to writing
Music and the experiences of those years ran through his writings. In June 1956 he published El Gurriato in the magazine Formación. His notes, songs and contributions would eventually become Alegres Soldados.
For decades he gathered information and corresponded with others to document the songs. In his later years he continued revising the book and sharing it with readers through this website.
Alfredo died on 8 April 2009. His family keeps this home for his memories open and his work freely available.
